VPA Australia Pre-30 has got the smarts; a two in one pre-workout with varying levels of caffeine to give you the perfect boost at the perfect time.
VPA Australia really have their flavours nailed too. All of their products and flavours I have tried to date have been spot on – true to taste and just delicious. As for VPA Australia Pre-30, the creaming soda was rocking. And lemon lime was pretty damn fine too.
As for the ingredients, creatine monohydrate, beta alanine and caffeine anhydrous were all quite familiar. On top of that, the other active ingredients included citrulline malate, l-arginine alpha ketoglutarate (“AAKG”) and a vitamin B complex.
You’re hopefully well aware that I am a fan of creatine and beta-alanine. Creatine is very well-researched with evidence showing a bunch of benefits for athletes, assisting, in particular, with power output. Beta alanine is beneficial for reducing acidity in the muscles, allowing you to knock out a few extra reps.
You’ll want about 3,000 to 5,000 mg of creatine and 2,000 to 5,000 mg of beta alanine per day for its full effects. Neither are timing dependent; so although found in pre-workouts it doesn’t really matter when you have it.
VPA Australia Pre-30 has 1,700mg of creatine, 1,500mg of beta alanine and 500mg of citrulline malate. I frequently supplement with creatine and beta alanine in any case, so taking VPA Pre-30 means I have less to take to it ideal doses.
Citrulline malate can aid circulatory health and enhance sports performance. The recommended dose for the latter is approximately 6,000 to 8,000 mg before training. This is far higher than the amount contained in VPA Pre-30, however, given that AAKG acts similarly I expect this makes it less of an issue.
Studies have shown citrulline to provide a noticeable reduction of fatigue during exercise (particularly during the last few sets of weightlifting) and another study has shown a significant reduction in muscle soreness in the days after training when taken as a pre-workout. It can also increase nitric oxide (which can relax blood vessels and assist with blood pressure) and arginine levels in the blood (which can also assist with blood flow and the production of nitric oxide).
AAKG is arginine teamed up with the anionic salt alpha-ketoglutarate and can allow for greater absorption of arginine. L-Arginine is an amino acid that can produce nitric oxide, similar to citrulline. It is also important in the urea cycle of the body, helping to reduce ammonia.
The Vitamin B complex assists with energy production, recovery and the reduction of bodily stress.
I had hold of VPA-30 in Lemon Line Caffeine and Creaming Soda Guarana.
The Creaming Soda was raspberry red in colour, with a creamy mild flavour. It was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness. It was refreshing and reminded me of strawberries and icecream. No signs of any unpleasant tang or bitterness, and it dissolved perfectly.
The Lemon Lime had a sherbetty aroma with plenty of zing. It was a brilliant green in colour when mixed with water. It was still quite sweet, but nowhere near as sweet as some pre-workouts I’ve tried. The flavour was still zingy, but not as intense as its aroma. It was easy drinking and had that familiar smooth taste just like the Creaming Soda. Again, it dissolved perfectly.
VPA Australia says Pre-30 will give you “amplified energy, laser focus and increased cognitive performance to push yourself to the next level of your training”. I certainly felt more alert and ready to go, but wouldn’t mind a double dose for that extra oomph occasionally.
The guarana variety (60 grams) has half the amount of caffeine than the caffeine variety (120 grams). But there’s reason behind this. VPA Australia describe their pre workout as a “2 in 1 pack”, which can also be purchased separately. Each one contains varying levels of caffeine from either caffeine anhydrous or guarana. The reason behind this is to allow users to alternate between the two, whether weekly or fortnightly, so as to avoid caffeine tolerance and withdrawals.
Smart, see! I told you!
The concept of pre-workouts is fun and I will shamelessly admit that I enjoy it. Opening up the container and making the drink, shaking it in anticipation of your training session. It’s part of the ritual – the mental and physical preparation. VPA Australia Pre-30 makes enjoying it frequently less concerning. I love a good pre-workout, and trying to ditch caffeine completely so as to prevent tolerance is a real headache (seriously!). VPA Australia have the perfect solution!
