Boomers Protein is pretty historic. It is Australia’s longest running protein company and is also family owned and operated.
Boomers Protein keep it simple. No flavours, no sweeteners, no fillers and no bulking agents, preservatives or gluten.
For vegans, organic sprouted brown rice protein is on offer. It uses the whole rice grain during processing, and is made into a very fine powder (or “mesh”). This results in a very smooth texture and easy mixing.
Boomers 100% Organic Sprouted Brown Rice Protein is 83 per cent protein and contains 6.9 grams of leucine per 100 grams. Out of interest, I note it has less of all the essential amino acids, including the branched chain amino acids, than Bulk Nutrients Rice Protein, with the exception of tryptophan.
Using the whole grain of brown rice results in a better amino acid profile than rice protein from white rice.
Rice protein can be low in the essential amino acid lysine. Boomers has 2.5 grams per 100 grams. The basic level of lysine required for human health is 30mg per kilogram of body weight, which is 1.8 grams for a 60 kilogram person and 2.4 grams for an 80 kilogram person. However, soy products are quite rich in lysine, as well as nuts and other legumes.
Rice protein is also great choice for persons with allergies as rice is infrequently an allergen.
As for the taste, Boomers 100% Organic Sprouted Brown Rice Protein has a very mild earthy slightly bitter flavour by itself, but works very well added to smoothies, baked goods or to thicken sauces.
